Carol Zoccoli is a comedian, actor and writer who made her name in comedy in Brazil and is now living in Toronto. She got her start writing jokes as a break from her Master’s thesis in Philosophy and never looked back. Six months after her first stand-up performance, she was named by the Brazilian magazine Época a “Break out comic in São Paulo.” Her style is playful but assertive.
In English, she was one of the eight finalists of Jokenation in 2015, an international comedy competition hold by Montreux Comedy Festival in Switzerland. She was also a finalist at Sway’s Comedy Search in 2016 - a comedy competition hold by Sirius XM’s Sway in the Morning, taped at Caroline’s on Broadway, in New York City. Carol was recipient of the 2015 Tim Sims Encouragement Award, award given for promising comedians by Second City and supported by the Ontario Arts Foundation. She performed at Halifax Comedy Festival in 2016, where her set was taped and aired by CBC. Also in 2016 she performed at the CBC show Accent on Toronto, aired on CBC radio. In 2017 she performed at JFL42 and was also in Atlanta’s Laughing Skull Comedy Festival roster. In 2018 she performed at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, where she taped another stand-up set for CBC. Carol created and produces a show in Toronto called Comedy as a Second Language, featuring immigrant and first generation comics. The show featured on the first page of the newspaper Toronto Star. Comedy as a Second Language is also produced in Washington DC by American producer Kim Levone. On Canadian radio, Carol can be listened on the CBC shows The Debaters and Laugh out Loud.
